ABC hit the motherload with Who Wants to be a Millionaire. It's making "is that your final answer" one of the most over used phrases of all time. Now you can play online at ABC.com, play the game on your PC with friends or just kick back and read the book. They've already given away over 7 million dollars and it looks like the other shows have some catching up to do.
Fox was not about to roll over and responded to Regis Philbin's success with the Chuck Woolery (formerly of The Dating Game) hosted Greed. Unlike the single person effort on Who wants to be... Greed puts together a "team" of 5 players. While the prize money starts out larger, the nature of the games has most people bailing out around $50,000. In fact, you can easily go home with absolutely nothing on this show. Now it was obvious every network needed a primetime big money game show. NBC came up Twenty One hosted by Maury Povich (of Current Affair fame).
And then strangely enough CBS signed Dick Clark (the producer of Fox's Greed) to host Winning Lines. And TV audience has a chance to win on this one.
